Vinous Stephen Tanzer - 01 Jul 16
Healthy pale yellow. Pungent aromas of oyster shell, flinty minerality, peppermint and citrus zest, with stone fruits in the background. Wonderfully sweet on entry, then sharpened in the middle by strong saline minerality. The intense yellow fruit and citrus flavors are tactile and elegant. Perhaps most impressive today on the slowly rising, fine-grained finish, which conveys a near-perfect combination of power and delicacy. A real iron fist in a velvet glove, this outstanding Clos is not at all austere today but will probably shut down in the bottle within the next couple years.

Chablis

Chablis, the northernmost Burgundy region, is famed for its crisp, mineral-driven Chardonnay wines. Unlike rich, oaky Chardonnays, Chablis wines, influenced by the cool climate and limestone-rich soils, feature vibrant acidity and flavours of green apple, citrus, and flint. Ideal with seafood, especially oysters, Chablis wines come in four appellations: Petit Chablis, Chablis, Chablis Premier Cru, and Chablis Grand Cru. Esteemed producers like Domaine William Fèvre, François Raveneau, and Vincent Dauvissat are known for their classic, terroir-expressive wines.
